I took this picture while at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Japan. This picture shows two Japanese citizens placing flowers at the Memorial Cenotaph in honor of the lives lost when America dropped the atomic bomb. Looking through the Memorial Cenotaph you can see the Peace Flame and the A-Bomb Dome. The Cenotaph holds all of the names of the people killed. It also has an epitaph that has the words “Rest in Peace, for the errors shall not be repeated.” The arched shape on the monument is meant to be a shelter for all of the souls of the people killed. As the two were praying I felt the urge to capture the moment while I was waiting to pay my respects. This picture reminds me of all of the good and beautiful things in the world, but also of all the things that still need changing.Participation by Leah D.
